ScreenToast

ScreenToast / Features / Captions

Auto captions for your Mac screen recordings.

ScreenToast turns what you said while recording into captions, transcribed on your Mac. Pick one of four styles, reveal them line by line or word by word, and save an .srt for YouTube. Nothing is uploaded to make them.

Record and edit free, no sign-in. Pro from $4.92/month when you export.

Your voice, transcribed on the Mac and turned into timed captions.

Why screen recordings need captions

On LinkedIn, X, Instagram and most feeds, video starts muted. A demo without captions loses those viewers in the first second. Captions also help non-native speakers, people watching at work, and anyone following along step by step.

Four caption styles

StyleWhat it looks likeGood for
MinimalClean sentence-case linesTutorials, product pages
CreatorBold uppercase linesReels, TikTok, Shorts
KaraokeEach word lights up as it's spokenSocial feeds, launch clips
DeveloperA code-flavoured lookDev tools, technical demos

Choose whether captions arrive line by line or word by word, and whether each line appears, fades or slides in.

How it works

  1. Record with your mic on and talk as you go. Or skip talking and use a narration voice; narration gets captions too.
  2. Open the transcript. Your words are transcribed on your Mac, timed to the video.
  3. Fix product names. Correct any word the transcription misheard.
  4. Pick a style and reveal mode, then export with captions in the picture, and save an .srt to upload to YouTube.

While you're in the transcript, delete a word to cut it from the video, or remove every "um" in one click. See edit by transcript.

Private by design

Many caption tools upload your video to a server to transcribe it. ScreenToast does the transcription on your Mac, so a recording of an unreleased product never leaves the machine.

Caption your next demo automatically.
